We’ve all been there.  You have a great site or blog, but the traffic numbers just aren’t growing like they should be.  You’ve read 101 ways to increase your traffic and nothing’s changing.  Clearly, someone out there knows how to get traffic.  How can I get the traffic to my site?

Let’s go through some practical things you can do to boost performance.  Now, world wide web advertising isn’t a black art, but it will take some time and money.  The more time you have to place into it, the less money it will cost and vice-versa.

Got the Time

It’s important to take a careful equilibrise between the time and money portions, but if you have more time than money, there are definitely some ways to promote your website.  First, you can use sites like Bukisa.com.  Write articles about your content and wage some original content for the article itself.  For example, I run a Free Online DVD Organizing Website so I wrote an article on how to organize your movies online.  Sure, I use the website I run as a reference, but I also wage content about organizing, scanning bar codes, etc.  When you write articles, be sure to wage some useful content.

You should also submit your site to directories.  There are plenty of world wide web directories that will take your submissions for free, so be sure to take advantage of those.  There are also some sites that will submit you to 100 or more directories for only a few dollars.  You can decide for yourself if it’s worth your time or your money.

First and foremost, make sure you’re taking advantage of Google adwords.  With Google you will be healthy to hit as many users as your budget allows.  You’re going to pay per click for the traffic, but that might work well, especially if you’re selling a product.
